Isaac was involved in a tragic accident in Port Jefferson Station on Saturday night, March 11, 2023, which also left five others with serious injuries. Isaac Ruiz Accident: How did it happen?
On a late Saturday night, the Suffolk County Police Department received an emergency report about a double vehicle accident at the intersection of Nesconset Highway and Woodhull Avenue. Police officers immediately responded to the scene, where they found that the accident involved a 2019 Honda Accord and a 2022 Ford Bronco. The driver of the Honda, Christopher Ospina, 18, from Islandia, was driving eastbound on Nesconset Highway and attempted to make a left turn onto Woodhull Avenue. Unfortunately, he was struck in the intersection by the westbound 2022 Ford Bronco, driven by Taner Ustaoglu, 19, from Miller Place. As a result of the collision, Isaac Ruiz, 16, from Medford, who was sitting in the backseat of the Honda, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead after being transported to Stony Brook University Hospital.
The other occupants of the vehicles, including Ospina, Ustaoglu, and three other passengers aged 15, 16, and 17, were also taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving and following traffic rules to prevent such fatal incidents from happening.
According to police, there were no charges filed in the crash, and both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are now urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Port Jefferson Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
