In a tragic incident, 26-year-old Jeffry Padilla lost his life in an overnight shooting in east Birmingham. The incident has left many questioning the circumstances surrounding the event.

The incident unfolded in the 500 block of 81st Street South, where police were dispatched after receiving a shot spotter alert of one round fired in the area. Upon receiving the alert, police rushed to the scene, which was quickly updated to a person shot.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade reported that when authorities arrived, they found Jeffry Padilla lying face down in the front yard of a residence. The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service declared him deceased at the location.

Investigators suspect that Padilla was involved in a verbal altercation with one or more unidentified suspects just before the fatal shooting.
