We mourn the loss of Louis S. “Sam” Jura, a 63-year-old resident of Buskirk and formerly of Lansingburgh. Tragically, Sam was taken from us far too soon due to a motor vehicle accident that occurred in the Town of Schaghticoke on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Our hearts are heavy with grief as we remember him and extend our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife, “Dee-Dee” Diane J. Graham Jura, and their family.
Who was Sam Jura?
Sam Jura was born in Troy, New York. He was the son of Louis F. and Mary Theresa Desautel Jura. Sam attended Lansingburgh High School and graduated in the Class of 1979. During his time in the Navy, he received accolades such as the Navy Battle Efficiency “E” Ribbon (Third), the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Stars, and the Expert M-16 Rifle Medal.
In his professional life, Sam worked at Freihofer’s Baking Co. (Bimbo Bakeries USA) in Albany. Before that, he spent many years as a Pressman/Printer at Alchar Printing in Troy.
Sam had a deep love for his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed various outdoor activities, including kayaking, hiking, four-wheeling, snowshoeing, and fishing. Moving to the countryside allowed him to fully embrace his passion for the outdoors. Sam took pride in gardening and maintaining the yard to showcase his wife Dee-Dee’s flowers. He also cherished spending time in the Dominican Republic during the winter, as he loved the warmth and sunshine.
