Who Was Ron Peno?

Ronald Stephen Valentine Peno, born on July 26, 1955, in Gosford, was a rock singer and songwriter from Australia. When he was in secondary school in Narrabri, he created a band called Virgin Frogs. He led the band Died Pretty from 1983 to 2002. Before that, he was a part of an early punk band called the Hellcats from 1976 to 1977. After that, he was in two more bands, the 31st (in Brisbane, from 1979 to 1981) and Screaming Tribesmen (in 1981). After moving to Melbourne, he teamed up with Kim Salmon to form an alt-country duo called The Darling Downs. Later on, he started his own band called Ron S. Peno & The Superstitions.

Tributes to Ron Peno

Phill Calvert Wrote,

Woke up this morning on the other side of the world to the sad news that Ron Peno had passed. I played in a band on bills with The Died Pretty in the 80’s and into the early 90’s. Ron was always a gentleman and also a really fun and funny guy. But most of all he was an amazing singer and performer. You couldn’t take your eyes off him on stage.

See ya later Ron. We all got to go sometime. Sad that your time was now.
