Who was Nakia Merrill?
Nakia Merrill was a passionate and dedicated member of the Dallas College Cedar Valley Campus community, where he was known as a true “Lion4Life.” His enthusiasm and pride for his alma mater was evident in everything he did and he was always eager to show his love for the college. Nakia graduated from the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences in 2003 and was also a proud member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
Aside from his love for his alma mater, Nakia was a larger than life figure who loved to play and be around friends. He was competitive, but most importantly, he just loved participating in games. He was an avid flag football and kickball player and even stepped in as a field coordinator and umpire from time to time.

Nakia Boog Merrill was a beloved member of the Dallas College Cedar Valley Campus community, where he served as Sr. Manager and Visual Media Support Services. Nakia was known for his enthusiastic and proud spirit, always showing his love for his alma mater. Unfortunately, Nakia’s life was cut short on Friday, February 3, 2023, as he passed away from the injuries sustained in a fatal car accident. The Dallas College Cedar Valley Campus community mourns the loss of this remarkable individual and extends their deepest condolences to Nakia’s family and friends during this difficult time. Nakia’s legacy will live on through his contributions to the college and the countless lives he touched.

This was the very first time that I met Nakia Boog Merrill . Apparently right before this he had done a handstand on a chair. Charles had always told me he was crazy fun. We had a blast that night. We didn’t know any of the people at the party we crashed at the hotel but they welcomed us with open arms.
Nakia was a great guy. He worked hard and played harder. RIP man.
