On the 2nd of April 2023, a tragic incident occurred near Caniff on I-75 when a driver lost control of their car and hit a crew from Superior Ambulance who had stopped to assist. Among those injured was emergency medical technician Matthew Madigan, who was nearing the end of his shift. Unfortunately, Matthew and a 36-year-old woman from Oak Park who was also involved in the crash, passed away as a result of their injuries. As they were attending to the injured woman, another driver lost control of their vehicle and collided with them, resulting in the tragic loss of both lives. While the identity of the woman has not been released by the authorities, it is clear that Matthew Madigan will be dearly missed by his loved ones and the community. Dustin Hawley, the general manager of Superior Ambulance Service, received the heartbreaking news shortly after the incident.
