Luis Cevallos and Alexis Rodriguez Accident: How It Happened
In the early hours of the morning, around 2:15 a.m., a heartbreaking incident occurred on Tonnelle Avenue near the Paterson Plank Road overpass, involving 27-year-old Alexis Rodriguez. She was a passenger in a 2022 Kia Stinger, driven by 24-year-old Luis Fernando Cevallos. Reports suggest that they were traveling south on Tonnelle Avenue at a notably high speed when they encountered a 2021 Volvo tractor trailer that had positioned itself across all four lanes of the road for an early morning delivery to a nearby business. In an attempt to avoid the looming obstacle, the Kia Stinger swerved but ultimately collided with the side of the tractor trailer, just behind one of its rear wheels. The impact sent the vehicle underneath the trailer, coming to a halt approximately 30 to 40 feet past the truck. Tragically, both Alexis Rodriguez and Luis Fernando Cevallos were pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the scene at 2:26 a.m. Remarkably, the truck driver, who was inside his vehicle during the collision, emerged without any injuries.
Despite the early stage of the investigation, Captain David Dowd of the North Bergen Police Department has indicated that drugs or alcohol do not seem to have played a role in this heartbreaking incident.
