On Saturday, August 5, 2023, a terrible incident occurred in the town of Somers. The police were called to a residence because there was a shooting. It happened around 7:10 a.m. When the officers arrived, they found the person responsible for the shooting dead. It was determined that the shooter took her own life with a gunshot wound. Tragically, before ending her life, she entered her child’s room and killed the child.

Dr. Krystal P. Cascetta was a medical expert who worked as an Assistant Professor at the Mount Sinai Queens Infusion Center, which is linked to the Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital. She was also an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Cascetta specialized in medical oncology and internal medicine. She obtained her MD degree from Albany Medical College, where she was praised for her compassionate patient care, leadership abilities, and dedication to service, earning her a spot in the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Later, she completed her internal medicine residency at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and the North Shore University Hospital, both affiliated with the Hofstra North Shore LIJ School of Medicine.

Throughout her medical journey, Dr. Cascetta received several honors, such as being named Resident of the Year and Resident Teacher of the Year during her time as a medical student. She also served as the Chief Fellow of Mount Sinai Hospital’s Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship Program. In addition, she participated in a Clinical Quality Fellowship with the United Hospital Fund and the Greater New York Hospital Association, which she completed in 2020. Furthermore, she had plans to obtain an Executive Master of Health Administration from Cornell University’s Sloan Program in Health Administration in 2022.
Dr. Cascetta was deeply engaged in conducting clinical trials focused on breast cancer. Her clinical practice mainly revolved around breast cancer, gynecological cancer, sarcoma, and stomach cancer.
