Jayla Vrana Died in Shooting: How it happened?
The incident happened at around 10:10 p.m. on the 400-block of West 72nd Street, and it was captured on video. The video shows that a group of young people, including the victims, were gathered near Hamilton Park – about 200 teenagers in total. Suddenly, without warning, some unknown people started shooting.
According to the information provided by the police, a 15-year-old admitted to the officers that she and her friends, including the 16-year-old girl who sadly lost her life, had come to the city from the southern suburbs to attend a party.
Around 10 p.m., as they were walking from the Red Line to the 300 block of West 72nd Street, they were confronted by someone who asked them what they were looking at. Shortly after, they heard two gunshots, possibly fired from a black car.
The 16-year-old girl was hit by a bullet in her back and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Sadly, she was later pronounced dead confirmed by the authorities. The identity of the girl was initially unknown, but after an investigation, it was revealed that she was Jayla Vrana, living in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The 15-year-old girl was also injured by the gunfire, getting shot in the arm. She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where her condition was reported as stable and good.
Currently, nobody has been arrested, and the police have assigned Area One detectives to handle the ongoing investigation.
