Drake Upton Car Accident: How It Happened
Louisiana State Police Troop A is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred this morning at around 6:30 a.m. on LA 44 at Oak Tree Street in St. James Parish. The accident resulted in the death of 19-year-old Drake Ryan Upton from Lafayette. According to the initial investigation, Upton was driving a 2019 Ford F-150 heading south on LA 44 when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. As a result, he veered off the road to the right, overcorrected, and went off the road to the left, crashing into a tree and causing his vehicle to overturn. Upton was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle, suffering critical injuries. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
