The South Yorkshire Police released the identities of the victims involved in the tragic cycling accident in Barnsley, which took place on January 20, 2023. Dean Jones and his son Lewis Daines were the two people whose lives were taken. The police made this announcement after notifying the family first, out of respect. Their bicycle collision occurred due to a careless driver’s failure to stop at a junction near Cudworth, a neighborhood within Barnsley. This needless loss of life highlights how short and fragile life can be; a reminder for us to embrace extraordinary moments during our days and express gratitude for what we have.
Following reports of a serious accident shortly after 9 p.m. on Royston Road, which runs over the Cudworth Parkway bridge, emergency services were dispatched to the scene. It is believed that Mr. Jones, aged 45, and Mr. Daines, aged 16, had both been riding bicycles along the road when they were hit by a car. The car did not come to a stop but proceeded to drive away from the scene. Both Mr. Jones and Mr. Daines were severely injured, and the police are investigating.

Following an extensive investigation, a 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death through reckless driving. Following an exhaustive investigation, the man has been exonerated, and no further action will be taken against him.
