Cole Pensick, a former offensive lineman for the University of Nebraska football team, tragically died in a car accident on Saturday morning. The incident occurred approximately 14 miles southwest of Columbus, Nebraska, and Pensick was pronounced dead at the scene by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of 141st and Q Roads. Investigators reported that Pensick was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, heading west on 141st, when he failed to stop at a stop sign at a “T” intersection. The pickup truck then swerved off the roadway and came to a stop in a grove of trees. This is a tragic loss for the Husker community, and Pensick’s friends and family are in mourning.
Who was Cole Pensick?
Cole Pensick had a successful football career, starting with Lincoln Northeast where he earned All-Nebraska honors in 2007 and 2008. He went on to commit to the University of Nebraska in January 2009, where he continued to excel on the field. Known for his versatility, Pensick played both center and guard positions, becoming a key member of the offensive line. In his senior year in 2013, Pensick played a crucial role in helping the Huskers achieve success as one of the top rushing teams in the Big Ten Conference.
Despite suffering from injuries, Pensick demonstrated resilience and was recognized by the coaches as a Big Ten second-teamer in 2013. He was also awarded the Cletus Fischer Native Son recipient. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Pensick also excelled academically, earning his agribusiness degree from Nebraska in December 2012 and receiving academic All-Big Ten honors in 2013.
