Career of Chris Farlowe
Chris Farlowe started his musical journey with a skiffle group called the John Henry Skiffle Group in 1957. A year later, he joined the Johnny Burns Rhythm and Blues Quartet before meeting guitarist Bob Taylor in 1959. Through Taylor, he became a member of the Thunderbirds and recorded five singles for the Columbia label. Farlowe released a version of “Stormy Monday Blues” on Island’s Sue label under the pseudonym Little Joe Cook, which added to the myth that he was a black singer.
Afterwards, Farlowe signed with Andrew Loog Oldham’s Immediate label and produced a total of eleven singles, of which five were covers of Rolling Stones songs, such as “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Paint It Black,” and “Out of Time.” The latter topped the UK Singles Chart in 1966. Moreover, Farlowe recorded four additional singles, comprising of Mike d’Abo’s “Handbags and Gladrags” and “My Way of Giving,” a Small Faces album track written by Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane.
Farlowe joined the jazz rock band Colosseum in September 1970 and recorded three albums with them, including a live album and two studio albums, one of which was Daughter of Time, released in 1970.
He continued to work with Colosseum after their reunion in 1994 and appeared on all their albums. Throughout his career, Chris Farlowe’s unique style and powerful voice made him a celebrated figure in the music industry.
